Ola co-founder Bhavish Aggarwal's artificial intelligence (AI) venture, Krutrim Si Designs, has introduced Krutrim, its inaugural series of multilingual AI models. This move marks the company's entry into the intensifying competition in the AI model sector.

The Sanskrit term "Krutrim" translates to "artificial" and it will be available in two versions. The standard model, known as Krutrim, will be trained on 2 trillion tokens and exclusive datasets.

On the other hand, the larger and more intricate model, named Krutrim Pro, is set to debut early next year, offering enhanced problem-solving and task execution features, MoneyControl reported.

At the unveiling event, Aggarwal introduced an AI chatbot, powered by Krutrim, that operates in a manner akin to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard, with a tagline 'India's own AI'.

This chatbot has the capability to comprehend 22 Indian languages and produce text in 10 of them. The team behind Krutrim is dispersed across India and the Bay Area in the US.

Krutrim Si Designs was established in April 2023 by Aggarwal in collaboration with Krishnamurthy Venugopala Tenneti, a board member of ANI Technologies Ltd. This company is the proprietor of both Ola Cabs and Ola Electric.

Aggarwal had earlier stated that Krutrim is set to be an AI firm designed for Indian clients, utilising the data resources of the country.

The initiation follows closely behind the Indian startup Sarvam's introduction of OpenHathi, the inaugural Hindi large language model.

The startup has recently publicised a significant $41 million fundraising effort, backed by notable investors including Lightspeed Ventures, Peak XV Partners, and Khosla Ventures.

Earlier this month, the tech behemoth Google introduced Gemini, the firm's latest and most sophisticated AI model.
