During the panel discussion organised during the Swarajya-Vedanta ‘The Road To Atmanirbharta’ webinar, Dr V Anantha Nageswara, an adjunct professor of economics at Singapore Management University and presently a part-time member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council spoke to Siddharth Zarabi, Managing Editor of NewJ, on the following areas
- Criticism that Atmanirbhar Bharat is a throwback to protectionism.
- On the dwindling enthusiasm for Global trade and if Atmanirbhar Bharat is essentially a response to the trend
- Did India suffer premature 'deindustralisation' in many areas due to embrace of unfettered free trade.
- Manufacturing has been laggard and will recent policy focus including PLI etc can help kickstart manufacturing in newer areas
- Crafting FTAs to support Atmanirbharta and what should be India 's approach to RCEP
- Arguments by former CEA etc that Atmanirbhata pivot is based on mistaken assumption that India was a laggard in exports.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
