At least 12 policemen were killed and over 50 people injured in an explosion inside the Kabal Police Station in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.
Emergency was declared in health facilities soon after the explosion in police station, which reportedly occurred on the premises of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) office.
CTD DIG Khalid Sohail was quoted by Geo News as saying that the blast was not a suicide attack.
"There was no attack or firing on the police station. The explosion occurred at a place where ammunition and mortar shells were stored," Sohail was quoted as saying.
He further said that the cause of the explosion - whether negligence or something else - was being investigated.
Further, the bomb disposal squads were also conducting an investigation, according to the CTD DIG.
The blast, which shattered the roof of the police station, the CTD office, and a mosque located inside the station, was also followed by a fire.
According to senior police officials cited by Dawn News, at least 20 policemen were trapped under the roof, which collapsed due to the intensity of the explosion.
