A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) training base in Punjab province was targeted by heavily-armed terrorists, resulting in damage to three grounded aircraft, according to the Pakistan Army.
The Pakistan Army in a statement said that the PAF's Mianwali Training Air Base, situated in Pakistani Punjab, was targeted by terrorists.
A group of five to six heavily armed men launched an early morning assault, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
However, the soldiers thwarted the attack by eliminating three of the attackers and trapping three others, it said.
According to the statement, the attack caused damage to three aircraft that were already grounded, as well as a fuel bowser.
The statement added that three terrorists were "neutralised while entering the base while the remaining three terrorists have been cornered/isolated due to timely and effective response by the troops", news agency PTI reported.
It further added that a comprehensive joint clearance and combing operation is in the final stages to completely clear the area.
The responsibility for the attack has been claimed by the Pakistan-based terrorist group Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), India Today reported.
The TJP is a newly emerged militant group that is an affiliate of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
