Russian President Vladimir Putin's ally predicts Ukraine war could last for decades, with extended periods of combat alternating with periods of ceasefire, according to RIA news agency.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who is a deputy chairman of Putin's security council, made harsh remarks during his visit to Vietnam.
In the past, Medvedev has commonly made such remarks, even calling the Ukrainian authorities an infection last month.
"This conflict will last a very long time, most likely decades," RIA cited Medvedev as saying.
"As long as there is such a power in place, there will be, say, three years of truce, two years of conflict, and everything will be repeated," he added.
He also reiterated Moscow's claim that Ukraine is a Nazi state.
Back in January, Dmitry Medvedev had cautioned that a Russian defeat in the conflict could potentially escalate into a nuclear war.
