When the union government announced that a new greenfield university by the corporate giant Reliance group would be qualified for the "Institution Of Excellence" tag, all hell broke lose.

Everyone and his Twitter friend had a field day. WhatsApp forwards about how the Modi government is favouring the Ambanis who control Reliance went berserk. Almost all of the adverse reaction was based on factually incorrect suspicions (Reliance won't get Rs 1,000 crore from the government for the university)

Perhaps Swarajya was the only digital + print media platform that offered a meaningful critique of the government policy that led to the Institution of Excellence fracas.

We've gone beyond outrage and silly potshots and looked at the issue from the vantage of first principles: why not give more freedom, absolute freedom, which is what the IoE tag is all about, to everyone?
