CBI–The War Within: Director On Compulsory Leave Alok Verma Denies All Corruption Allegations Before The CVC

Alok Verma, the on leave CBI Director, appeared before a panel headed by the Central Vigilance Commissioner, K V Chowdary, and denied all the allegations levelled against in the CBI Corruption case, as reported by the Press Trust of India.
Verma’s deputy, Rakesh Asthana who is also on forced leave, had cited Verma in a bribery case involving the Hyderabad-based businessman, Sana Sathish Babu.
It was reported that had former director had refuted all the allegations, individually and denied any involvement of bribery in the case. The CVC inquiry is being supervised in by Justice A K Patnaik, a retired SC judge on the orders of the Supreme Court. The SC, in its 26 October judgement, had also asked CVC to complete investigations into the matter within two weeks, which ends on Sunday (11 November).
The personal disagreements between Verma and Asthana, the former second in command at CBI, became public and made headlines. However, the government moved in and sent both on leave to protect the integrity of the nation’s top investigative agency.
The CBI has also filed a case against Asthana for allegedly receiving Rs 2 crores as a bribe to obstruct the investigation into the dealings of the meat exporter, Moin Qureshi.
