All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has finalised the new curriculum that will be used to upgrade the skills of faculty members teaching in technical institutions across the country, as reported by Times Of India (TOI).
AICTE, India’s apex regulator for technical education, is expected to launch the same in the next 15 to 20 days.
According to AICTE Chairman, Anil Sahasrabudhe, the training programme which will run for an entire semester will be made mandatory for recruiting technical faculty in institutes. “The programme would be 4.5 to five months long and would have eight modules and around 480 hours of lectures,” he mentioned.
In October, AICTE revealed plans to set up four teacher training institutes at Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur, Guwahati and Baroda. However, recently, as part of an RTI query, The Hindu reported that the government recruited around 16,549 part-time teachers in 2012, who did not possess the mandatory technical teacher training certificate.
On the other hand, to expand the range of courses that students can take, Indian universities are slowly moving towards the internationally-renowned CBCS (Choice Based Credit System).
