India has been shortlisted among five countries which could potentially host the first Uber Air City. Uber Elevate which is the aerial taxi arm of the popular ride sharing network made the announcement at the first “Uber Elevate Asia Pacific Expo” in Tokyo.

India has been shortlisted along with Japan, Australia, France and Brazil and one of the cities in these countries would become the third city in the world after Dallas and Los Angeles to host flying taxis. The company also plans to use the Elevate vertical to experiment with drone deliveries for Uber Eats.

The coming years would witness Uber customers being able to demand flights on the touch of a button and also aid in easing local commute in heavily congested cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. In order to roll out Uber Elevate, the company has assembled a network of partners consisting of vehicle manufacturers, real estate developers and technology developers among others.

The parameters for selecting the third host city for flying taxis are the presence of a sizable market, local commitment combined with enabling conditions.
