State-owned Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI)'s new Wide Plate mill facility at its existing plant in Hyderabad will be inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday (27 December).
MIDHANI, a government-owned metallurgical company which was established in 1973 and is under the control of the Ministry of Defence, specialises in the production of a wide range of alloys, including superalloys, titanium, and special steel.
In addition, MIDHANI has developed technology to produce high strength titanium alloys for space, nuclear, and defense applications.
The Wide Plate Mill, which was built with an investment of approximately Rs 500 crore, is capable of rolling slabs of various alloys and has a unique capacity to roll ultra-high strength steel to very low thicknesses due to its high rolling force.
The company said that 3-meter width of the plate which can be rolled in newly commissioned mill makes it unique in world.
The new Wide Plate Mill is expected to meet the requirements of special steel plates for national strategic programmes and serve as a national facility for the development of wide plates that will meet present and future needs, as well as serve as an import substitute, the company added.
