The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted a flight test of its Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) System.

The test took place today at 16:20 hrs when a target missile was launched, simulating an adversary ballistic missile.

The advanced weapon system, equipped with radars deployed both on land and sea, quickly detected the incoming target. The AD Interceptor system was then activated.

Four minutes later, at 16:24 hrs, the Phase-II AD Endo-atmospheric missile was launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur.

This successful flight test validated the network-centric warfare capabilities of the BMD system, which includes long-range sensors, a low-latency communication system, a mission control center (MCC), and advanced interceptor missiles.

The achievement underscores India's indigenous capability to defend against ballistic missiles with a range of up to 5000 km.

The Phase-II AD Endo-atmospheric missile is a two-stage, solid-propelled, ground-launched missile system designed to neutralize various types of enemy ballistic missile threats in the endo- to low exo-atmospheric regions.

This milestone demonstrates significant progress in India's defense technology, enhancing the nation's ability to safeguard against high-altitude ballistic missile threats.
