"11 crore tap connections! The vision of our PM Narendra Modi ji, the relentless pursuit of the goals set out for Jal Jeevan Mission by the ministry and the effort of our team on ground has made this mega milestone possible," Shekhawat tweeted.
"11 crore homes are now assured of health and well-being with this elixir of life reaching their doorsteps," he added.
In response to the tweet by the Jal Shakti Minister, the Prime Minister tweeted, “A great feat, indicative of the ground covered to ensure ‘Har Ghar Jal’ to the people of India. Congratulations to all those who have benefitted from this initiative and compliments to those working on the ground to make this Mission a success".
The Jal Jeevan Mission was launched by the Centre in 2019 to enable every rural household across the country to have provision of potable tap water supply by 2024.
The JJM is being implemented by the Centre in partnership with states.
At the time of announcement of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), 3.23 crore (17 per cent) households were reported to have tap water connections.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
