Canada-based LEA International Agency, a renowned expert in urban development, has submitted the initial progress report to the Karnataka government regarding the comprehensive development of Raichur city.
The report primarily focuses on the conservation and preservation of historically significant traditions, culture, heritage, and symbols.
"I have thoroughly reviewed the report and have suggested some changes. I will be discussing the second report with the Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister shortly," stated N S Boseraju, the Minister of Minor Irrigation, Science, and Technology.
"This agency has successfully revitalised numerous world-renowned cities. Additionally, they have provided valuable insights to the Department of Public Works on road design, with a focus on ensuring safety," added the Science and Technology Minister.
As per The Hindu report, the objective given to LEA International was to modernise Raichur while preserving its fundamental culture and heritage. The aim is to elevate Raichur to an international standard without compromising its intrinsic identity, as explained by Boseraju.
Raichur
Raichur, a prominent city in the Kalyana Karnataka region, has a rich history as it was once under the rule of the Nizams. This city possesses its own distinct and special characteristics that make it unique.
Raichur lies between two important rivers, the Krishna and the Tungabhadra, in the northeastern part of Karnataka state.
It has had an eventful and rich history with a recorded history being traced to as far back as the third century BC, beginning from the days of the Mauryan King Ashoka.
A number of inscriptions, rock edicts and other records bear testimony to this fact, especially the minor rock edicts of Ashoka found at Maski; which were the first edicts which mentioned Emperor Ashoka by name.
Hutti located here, is home to Hutti Gold Mines Company Limited, which is an undertaking of the government of Karnataka and has the unique distinction of being the only active producer of primary gold in the country.
