The Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR), a Railway PSU, has entered into an agreement with Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) to explore the potential establishment of Liquefied natural gas (LNG) or LCNG infrastructure at its terminals in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
This strategic partnership seeks to transform the logistics sector by replacing diesel with natural gas, as stated by CONCOR.
According to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between CONCOR and IGL, both companies will assess the feasibility of setting up LNG/LCNG infrastructure within CONCOR terminals.
The initial phase involves installing LNG and LCNG facilities at the Dadri (Gautam Budh Nagar) terminal of CONCOR, the statement mentioned.
Additionally, CONCOR and IGL are considering the possibility of transporting LNG in the future through railway rakes from LNG terminals near seaports, such as Dahej in Gujarat, to various locations within India.
This collaboration emphasises the commitment of both CONCOR and IGL to reducing carbon emissions and promoting a cleaner, greener future for the transportation industry.
LNG trucks emit significantly lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional diesel trucks, contributing to a cleaner environment and aligning with global sustainability goals.
Under the MoU, CONCOR and IGL will jointly explore the potential use of LNG-fired engines to replace existing diesel-fired engines at various CONCOR terminals.
Sanjay Swarup, Chairman and Managing Director of CONCOR, expressed the company's dedication to adopting innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency and align with environmental responsibility, reports Times Of India.
K K Chatiwal, Managing Director of IGL, highlighted that this collaboration represents a significant step forward in their commitment to environmental sustainability.
By establishing the necessary LNG infrastructure, they aim to set new benchmarks for eco-friendly transportation in the industry.
