Just one week after hosting the G20 Summit at the Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, Delhi is all set to get its second large-scale convention and exhibition venue, the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), in Dwarka.

The first phase of IICC is expected to officially open on 17 September, coinciding with the launch of the PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman (PM-VIKAS) scheme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Rs 25,703-crore IICC, being built in Dwarka’s sector-25, houses office spaces, retail spaces and hotel rooms, apart from the exhibition halls and convention centre.

Located 10 km from IGI Airport, and around 25 km southwest of Connaught Place — the city centre of New Delhi — the IICC is being developed in two phases.

The initial phase includes a mega convention centre, two exhibition halls and a parking area with capacity for 3,000 cars.

According to details available on the IICC website, the multi-purpose convention centre will have the biggest auditorium in the country that can seat over 6,000 people.

It includes a grand ballroom with 2,400 seats and 13 other mid and large-sized conference rooms.

The two exhibition halls will provide approximately 54,000 sqm of leasable space, capable of housing around 1,800 exhibition booths. Additionally, outdoor areas will be accessible for use.

Phase-2 of construction will include three more exhibition halls, as well as the arena.

With a total indoor area of 300,000 sqm, IICC will be India’s largest convention and exhibition complex, when completed.

With a total of 3,500 guest rooms within 1 km, as well as shopping, entertainment and office facilities, IICC will be an ideal venue for organisers, exhibitors and buyers.

Bharat Mandapam

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 26 July, the Bharat Mandapam is currently India’s largest conference and exhibition venue.

Spread over 53,399 sqm, it has the capacity to seat 7,000 people in its multi-purpose and plenary halls combined — larger than the iconic Sydney Opera House which can hold around 5,900 in its various halls.

The central idea that has instructed its design is 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', which is also the theme for India's ongoing G20 presidency.
