The Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bhavnagar Port Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. (BPIPL) to operate and maintain the upcoming container terminal at Bhavnagar Port in Gujarat, according to an official release.

CONCOR is a Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways that provides intermodal logistics solutions to support India's growing international and domestic trade.

According to the release, BPIPL has already executed an agreement with the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) for the development of the port infrastructure.

Under this agreement, 235 hectares of land have been allotted to BPIPL on a 30-year lease, with provision for an additional 250 hectares for future expansion.

The total project cost has been estimated at Rs 4,500 crore.

The development plan includes:

  • A container terminal with three berths

  • A multipurpose terminal with two berths

  • A Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) terminal

  • A proposed liquid cargo handling terminal

The port facility is expected to cater to the logistics needs of Central Gujarat, the Dholera Industrial Belt, and extend services to customers in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Under the MoU, CONCOR will act as the container terminal operator, responsible for operation, management, and marketing of the terminal.

According to the release, this pacts marks a significant strategic step for CONCOR as it expands into port operations.

On this occasion, CONCOR CMD Sanjay Swarup stated that the collaboration is expected to provide substantial value addition to customers and further strengthen CONCOR’s leadership in the logistics sector.
