The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved another significant milestone with the successful completion of the viaduct launching over the Girdhar Nagar flyover, one of the busiest two-lane flyovers in Ahmedabad district.

The Girdhar Nagar flyover is a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) on the Delhi–Ahmedabad main line (Western Railway) in Ahmedabad district.

The viaduct runs parallel to the existing railway line, and the launching over the flyover was completed on 15th September, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) said in a statement.

NHSRCL is the implementing agency for the 508 Km Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.

The viaduct involved the launching of a 45-metre-long span using the Span-by-Span (SBS) method.

The structure was raised to a height of 19.5 metres from ground to rail level, comprising 19 segments with a total weight of 1,200 metric tonnes.

Given the importance of Girdhar Nagar bridge—connecting Shahibaug, Asawra and Kalupur and serving thousands of daily commuters—the construction was carefully scheduled and executed within just 12 days, well before the block period deadline of 20 September.

To ensure smooth traffic flow and safety during the work, NHSRCL implemented a series of public-friendly measures including barricading, traffic diversion signages, timely announcements of route changes, deployment of traffic marshals, and adequate night lighting.

The bullet train corridor in Ahmedabad district spans across 31 crossings, including eight Indian Railways crossings, 16 canal crossings, one major river bridge over the Sabarmati, six steel bridges, and several flyovers and underpasses.

Of these, 15 crossings have already been completed.
