  • The Metro Line-10 will serve as an extension of the ongoing Metro-4 (Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavli) and Metro-4A (Kasarvadavli-Gaimukh) projects.

The construction of the Metro Line-10, spanning nearly 10 km, is set to begin as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) takes the initiative to establish direct connectivity between Metro-4 and Mira Road.

The unique feature of this metro line is its double-decker design, as it will run above an elevated road planned between Gaimukh and Fountain Hotel.

Starting from Gaimukh, where line 4A ends, the 9.20 km line will terminate at Mira Gaon.

The MMRDA has already appointed the consortium of Systra-DB Engineering as consultants for the project and is in the process of appointing a consultant to obtain environmental clearance.

Once the environmental clearance is obtained, the tendering process can begin this year, and the actual construction work can commence in 2024.

The project is expected to be completed within 36 months. The Metro Line-10 will cover a distance of 9.2 km, with approximately 4 km of it being an elevated section between Gaimukh and Hotel Fountain on national highway-8.

The Rs 4,476-crore project was approved in September 2019 and was scheduled to be finished in 2025.

The double-decker design is being implemented due to the inability to widen the road at Ghodbunder, with the metro being built above the elevated road at a height of at least 20 m from the ground level, reports Times Of India.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has already obtained some approvals for the elevated road, and the MMRDA can seek the transfer of these approvals for the construction of Metro-10.

The Metro-10 line will serve as an extension of the ongoing Metro-4 (Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavli) and Metro-4A (Kasarvadavli-Gaimukh) projects.

Officials have stated that there is no need to construct a separate depot for Metro line-10. The existing depot at Mogharpada, which serves lines 4, 4A, and 11 (CSMT-Wadala), will also cater to this line.
