Thane Collector Ashok Shingare has issued a notice for the allocation of land at Nilje Pada in Kalyan taluka.
The land will be used for various purposes including the construction of a depot, labour camp, casting yard, receiving substation, and plantation.
An official from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has stated that the collector has allocated 47 hectares of land for this project at no cost.
The land has been provided as part of an important public initiative. Going forward, a tender will be announced for the construction of the depot, as per the Indian Express report.
Orange Line
The metro corridor, also known as the Orange Line, was planned to be 20.75 km long and would connect the extended suburbs of Mumbai.
These areas are experiencing rapid population growth and lack an efficient public transportation network.
This new metro line will be an extension of the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro line-5.
It will also connect with the Wadala-Ghatkopar-Kasarvadavali-Gaimukh lines 4 and 4A. This means that commuters from the eastern suburbs will be able to reach Taloja by changing metros at two stations.
The Mumbai Metro Line 12 will have 17 stations, with 12 kilometres being fully elevated.
The 17 stations start from Kalyan East, and then at Ganesh Nagar, Pisavali Gaon, Golavali, Dombivali MIDC, Sagaon, Manpada, Sonarpada, Hedutane, Kolegaon, Nilje Gaon, Vadavali, Bale, Waklan, Turbhe, Pisarve Depot, Pisarve and Taloja.
Currently, to travel to Taloja, people have to either use the road or take a train to Diva and then switch to another local train heading towards Panvel or Roha. However, there are only a limited number of trains available between Diva and Panvel/Roha.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 5,494 crore, and it is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The project is expected to be completed by October 2025.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
