The Vande Bharat Express, a hallmark of India's modern rail network, has reached a significant milestone by completing 35,428 trips and serving over 3.17 crore passengers since its launch on 15 February 2019.
As of 20 August 2024, the Vande Bharat Express fleet, comprising 54 trains, has travelled a distance equivalent to 310.7 rounds of the Earth in the fiscal year 2023-24.
The extensive network of these trains covers more than 280 districts across 24 states and Union Territories, highlighting their widespread reach and efficiency.
A Sridhar, Chief Public Relations Officer of South Central Railway, noted that the Vande Bharat Express portfolio is expanding, with new services being introduced to enhance connectivity.
"Indigenously designed under the ‘Make in India' initiative, Vande Bharat trains are equipped with cutting-edge features that deliver both luxury and efficiency to millions of passengers. With faster commute times, advanced safety features, and world-class amenities, Indian Railways is setting new benchmarks in travel," Sridhar said, as reported by Times Of India.
The trains are equipped with several advanced features, including intelligent braking systems, automatic doors, GPS-based passenger information systems, and bio-vacuum toilets. Notably, the regenerative braking systems used in these trains save up to 30 per cent in electrical energy, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability.
The trains also feature executive-class coaches with rotating ergonomic seats, among other innovations, which enhance passenger comfort and convenience.
"With the Vande Bharat Express, Indian Railways is poised to redefine the passenger experience, offering unmatched speed, safety, and comfort. This service has become a symbol of progress for Indian Railways," Sridhar added.
The success of the Vande Bharat Express not only reflects the achievements of the ‘Make in India’ initiative but also sets new global standards for rail travel in terms of speed, safety, and service.
