2,500 foreigner Tablighi Jamaat members who were staying in India during the quarantine period while violating lockdown rules have been banned from entering India for a period of 10 years, Press Trust of India has reported.
The information regarding these blacklisted Tablighi Jamaat members was collected by the Home Ministry with inputs from various state governments.
At least 250 of these foreigners are believed to have taken part in the Tablighi Jamaat event at Nizamuddin Markaz - the largest Covid-19 infection vector in the country. Many of them had tested positive for Covid-19.
The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police had earlier chargesheeted 541 foreign nationals in connection with the Tablighi Jamaat case.
They have been charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Epidemic Diseases Act, the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and also for violating the prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
They have been also charged for the visa rules violation. The government has cancelled their visa and blacklisted them.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
