A total of 26 FIRs have been registered against Samajwadi Party(SP) leader Azam Khan in connection with land encroachment, reports ANI.

The Rampur MP is accused to have threatened the farmers using the police officials to grab their land illegally. A team has been formed to investigate the matter.

Tightening the noose around the ever controversial MP, the Rampur district administration has included him in the list of land mafias.

Controversies are not new for the senior SP leader. While campaigning for Lok Sabha election 2019, he took several derogatory remarks against BJP candidate Jaya Prada. He was temporarily banned from campaigning for these remarks.

Azam Khan had shot to infamy when he used the police force to search seven of his buffaloes which were stolen from his farmhouse. The incident happened in 2014 during the previous Akhilesh Yadav regime in Uttar Pradesh.

A team led by a Superintendent of Police was scattered across the district in a massive buffalo hunt. It had included combing of the fields with the help of sniffer dogs to track down the animals. The distraught Khan reportedly had CCTV footage of the slaughterhouses scanned.
