After ‘careful scrutiny and analysis’ the University Grants Commision (UGC) has removed 4,305 journals from the approved list of journals, Minister of State for HRD, Satya Pal Singh, informed the Upper House.
Currently, the UGC acknowledges three categories of journals: “Web of Science or Scopus”, those recommended by the Standing Committee and the Language Committee, and journals approved by the universities.
The recommendation portal will now be opened yearly, and the universities shall be asked to recommend journals as per the UGC’s Standing Committee on notification of journals. Furthermore, every recommendation submitted by the universities will be re-verified under the strict supervision of the Standing Committee to determine that only good quality journals are included in the UGC-approved list as reported by Indian Express.
Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics (CARE) has been established by the UGC to revamp and nourish the process of inclusion of journals in the discipline of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
