The United States (US) of America and Taliban forces are set to sign an agreement on 29 February to end the prolonged state of war between the two in the nation of Afghanistan, reports Economic Times.
The signing of the agreement would take place after the end of a week long period of violence reduction between the two parties which will commence tonight at midnight and end on 29 February. The development comes after lengthy parleys between the two sides.
The agreement would be signed in the presence of international observers, and thereafter both the parties will also make arrangements to facilitate the release of prisoners. The culmination of the agreement would eventually lead to reduced presence of the US troopers deployed in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that it is expected that post the signing of the agreement, the two will take up negotiations on an intra-Afghanistan political settlement between the Taliban forces and the Government of Afghanistan.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
