The Indian Railways has officially renamed it's Allahabad Division as the Prayagraj Division with immediate effect via a notification on Saturday (22 February), reports Livemint.
Along with the change of name of the Allahabad Division, the Indian railways has also notified the change of names of the Allahabad City (ALY) and Prayag Ghat (PYG) railway stations to Prayagraj Rambag (PRRB), and Prayagraj Sangam (PYGS).
It should be noted that earlier this week, the Railways had already communicated the change of names of a number of stations. As per the announcement, apart from the two aforementioned railway stations, Allahabad Junction will now be known as Prayagraj Junction and Allahabad Chhioki will now be known as Prayagraj Chheoki.
Announcing the decision taken by the union government and the state government of Uttar Pradesh (UP), Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal had tweeted that the decision would bring back the identity of the ancient city.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
