Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday (27 March) announced that DD National will re-telecast the acclaimed TV series Ramayan directed by Ramanand Sagar.
Javadekar was quoted as saying that the series will air on DD National from tomorrow (28 March). The channel will telecast two episodes per day - one from 9 AM to 10 AM and another from 9 PM to 10 PM.
This announcement was a result of a massive social media campaign by the general public who called upon Prasar Bharti to rerun both Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan and B R Chopra’s Mahabharat during the 21 day lockdown period.
Many social media users pointed out that people made it a point to stay at home and watch the series’ when they aired in the late 1980s - something which would be useful during the lockdown period.
This demand was acknowledged by Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar who confirmed that the public broadcasting network was in talks with the rights holders of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, B R Chopra’s Mahabharat to telecast them on DD National.
