He was arrested on 24th October for allegedly making objectionable comments against Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray & State Minister Aaditya Thackeray on social media.
This came after the state government submitted before the Supreme Court that it will not oppose the Bail application as it has completed the investigation into the matter.
The arrests pertained to Thakkar's tweets which allegedly termed Uddhav Thackeray a - modern day Aurangzeb and his son and fellow minister Aditya Thackeray a baby penguin.
Following the arrest a disturbing video released by Thakkar's family purportedly showed him being led to a court while being tied to a rope with his face being covered with a black cloth.
On 3 November Thakkar was granted bail by a Nagpur court and was then arrested by Mumbai's V P Road Police till 9 November. The BKC Police then arrested him on 10 November and he has been in their custody since then.
