The Allahabad High Court on Friday (24 July) dismissed a PIL filed by activist Saket Gokhale wherein he had sought a stay on the Ram Mandir's Bhoomi Pujan at the Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya.
As per a Live Law report, a bench led by Chief Justice Govind Mathur dismissed the petition after observing that, "The entire petition for writ is based on assumptions and there is no foundation for apprehending violation of the prescribed protocol".
He added that the court hopes that the Uttar Pradesh government and the organisers would ensure that the required measures for social distancing are adhered to.
It was reported that Gokhale is a supposed Congress supporter who had filed the petition while saying that, "I have filed a Letter PIL with the Allahabad High Court seeking a stay on the Ram Mandir event in Ayodhya in view of the Unlock 2.0 guidelines and in the interest of public health during a pandemic".
The Bhumi Pujan is expected to be held on 5 August and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is likely to be accompanied by senior BJP leader L K Advani.
