Exporters have urge the Centre to allow them to continue to operate with 50 per cent of their manpower during the span of lockdown to ensure that they do not lose their market share, reports Hindu Businessline.
In a video conference with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, the exporters represented by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) underscored that their losses would turn into China's gain which is exercising all means to greater market access with increased export rebate VAT. FIEO has stressed on the need for the government to act fast in this regard.
FIEO has assured Goyal that they will ensure social distancing and safety norms if allowed to operate with half the workforce, which would help in ensuring that they do not lose market share to China and other competing nations.
The development has come as the exports from the nation have come to a halt in the wake of nationwide 21-day lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24 March.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
