Tata Sky has informed that they would be removing 26 channels from their platform, reports The Television Post. The Direct To Home operator (DTH) has issued a public notice stating 26 channels would not continue after three weeks from the date of publication of the announcement.
Tata Sky has been in the spotlight for the past few weeks after its fallout with various channels like Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), ZEEL and IndiaCast Media Distribution over the renewal of contracts. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) later directed Sony and Tata Sky to agree either negotiated or reference interconnect offer (RIO) in October.
In the present notice, Tata Sky has mentioned 26 channels would not be available to the users due to either breach of contract or non-renewal of contracts. Eight channels namely - News Time Bangla, Dhoom Music Bangla, Rupasi Bangla, Prag News, Vedic, Aastha Bhajan, Care World, Janta TV, and Puthiya Thalaimurai are removed due to the breach of contract.
The rest 17 who have not renewed their contracts are Al Jazeera, Manoranjan Movies, R Plus, Music F, Sangeet Bhojpuri, Mastiii, 9X Tashan, Swara Sagar, Captain TV, Mega TV, News 7 Tamil, Kalaignar Isai Aruvi, Kalaignar Sirippoli, Kalaignar, Kalaignar Seithigal, Jinvani TV, and Oscar Movies Bhojpuri.
Previously in September, Tata Sky had removed Suddhi TV, Shop CJ, Bangla TV, Jonack, DY 365, News11, NHK World TV, Studio N News, Assam Talks, Adhyatm, News7 (Prameya News), CVR News, CVR Health, CVR Spiritual Om, CVR News English, APN, Jai Paras TV, Paras Gold, Dangal, Enterr10, Fakt Marathi, Bhojpuri Cinema, Buland News Samachar Plus, HNN 24×7, News1 India, V6, and Jai Maharashtra due to breach of agreement.
Additionally, HomeShop18, MediaOne TV, Safari, Khabrain Abhi Tak, Bharat Samachar, 9XM, 9X Jhakaas, 9XO, 9X Jalwa, and News India 24×7 were removed due to the expiry of their agreements.
