Jagan Reddy led YSR Congress MP Raghu Ramakrishna Raju who has turned a rebel against his party, has been arrested by the CID department of the Andhra police on charges of sedition, India Today has reported.

The arrest which was carried out on Raju's birthday on Friday (14 May) under various sections of the IPC including sedition, comes days after he had filed a petition seeking CBI court's cancellation of bail granted to Jagan Reddy in disproportionate assets case.

The CID has alleged that Raju has been "indulging in hate speeches against certain communities and promoting disaffection against the government".

After being sent to judicial custody till 28 March, Raju had attempted to secure bail via the High Court but his efforts went in vain.

Incidentally, Raju had made headlines last year when he had admitted to large scale conversions being carried out by Christian missionaries in Andhra Pradesh.

Raju said that, “While I agree to the fact that conversions are happening in a big way...”.

“It is the money power of the Christian missionaries which they are able to pump in from abroad and build churches”, added Raju.

The YSRCP MP also hinted that missionaries silently go at night at colonies to preach their religious messages in a bid to convert the locals.
