It seems all is not well at the Apple’s new headquarters – the Apple Park – in Cupertino, California. Amid reports that not all of the tech giant’s employees are happy over not getting a chance to move in to the new office that houses 12,000 employees, around half of its total headcount in the San Francisco bay area, a new problem seems to have cropped up at the ‘Spaceship’.
Apple seems to have a windows problem in their new headquarters, nicknamed ‘The Spaceship’ due to its circular design. Touted as an architectural wonder for its meticulous design, the $51 billion dollar building is adept at giving headaches to its employees.
Thanks to its spotless glass, employees are unable to distinguish between the glass walls and automated doors, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. The matter came to light when an official from the Cupertino buildings department visited last year and foretold the matter. Moments later, a contractor was reported to have walked straight into the glass.
The reason behind this is said to be the housekeeping staff’s ability to keep the 260,000 square metre of glass spotlessly clean – clean enough that people are unable to see it before banging into it. So far, three emergency calls have been made to 911 where employees reported bruises and concussions due to the clear glass. Employees, in all likelihood are waiting for Apple’s dedicated medical centre for employees to open.
Reports suggest that the root cause of the problems are iPhones with users being distracted on their phones. Some employees went as far as sticking Post-It notes on the glass but they were removed as they didn’t conform with the designs.
