Communist Party of India (Marxist) Kerala secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has accused the Indian Army of abduction and rape, and claimed that “given extreme powers, it can do anything to anybody”.
The senior politician from Kerala is seen saying in a speech that "they (Army men) can pick any woman and rape her; nobody has the right to question”, as reported by ANI.
About the volatile situation in Kannur, which has been in the limelight due to deadly clashes between Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and CPI(M) cadre, Balakrishnan has been quoted as saying, "If the army is brought into Kannur, there would be a clash between the army and the people. If they see more than four people standing together, they can shoot them. Nobody has the right to question them. This is the state wherever the army is.”
Balakrishnan’s statement comes a day after the state Bharatiya Janata Party leadership called on the Governor seeking imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
