The Rajya Sabha's secretariat has instituted an employees' welfare scheme in the memory of former Rajya Sabha member and Union minister Arun Jaitley.

This scheme has been formulated as per the wishes of Jaitley's wife Sangeeta, reports Hindustan Times.

The scheme will be funded through the family pension which Sangeeta is entitled to, and be used for the benefit of the bottom rung of employees of the secretariat.

Sangeeta had written to Vice President and Chairman of the Upper House M Venkaiah Naidu about the same last month. She had said, "I would like to humbly request the Hon’ble Parliament to deploy this pension amount towards the welfare of the most needy segment of the institution which Arun served for almost two decades; the class IV employees of the Rajya Sabha."

The scheme has been titled "Shri Arun Jaitley Financial Assistance for Group C Employees."

It should be noted that Jaitley was once the Leader of the Upper House. He left for his heavenly abode in August last year after fighting multiple health ailments in his last days.

Jaitley had served the Government and the Parliament in various capacities and was a top lawyer in the Supreme Court of India.
