‘I made a mistake’: AIMIM MLA apologises for chanting ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya’ following backlash from his party(Left) AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi and (Right) AIMIM MLA Waris Pathan (Facebook)

Mumbai’s Ganesh Chaturthi is known for its secular values and inclusive nature. More often than not, people from outside of the Hindu community are seen celebrating the festival. Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has gone all guns out against its party MLA Waris Pathan for chanting ‘Ganapati Bappa’ at a mandal in Mumbai.

Pathan represents Byculla assembly constituency from Mumbai. In the video uploaded on social media, he is seen apologising and calling ‘it a mistake’.

Many questions are being asked if chanting those words are truly anti-Islamic. Is this coming from Pathan himself or the party seniors, only time will tell.
