As of 30 November, Bengaluru police have registered 258 cases under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) as compared to the 2017 figure of 354. The amount of drugs seized though has increased from 567.9 kg to 738.6 kg.
The police has cracked down on both the customers and dealers in its fight against drugs.
The New Indian Express quoted Additional CP (East) Seemant Kumar as saying, “This year, the most drug caught was marijuana and we have found it comes from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. We have informants keeping us in the loop about their whereabouts since a different pattern is used every time they want to bring in the drugs.”
This year, 378 Indians and 13 foreigners have been arrested and is expected to continue in December too. In the cocaine trade, just one Indian has been arrested and 22 foreigners were arrested. The most number of cocaine related arrests made have been of African nationals.
Just about a month ago, the CCB police arrested two African nationals and seized cocaine, ecstacy pills estimated to be worth about Rs 1.5 crore.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
