A gang involved in selling fraudulent bus passes of the civic-run Mumbai transport undertaking, BEST, has been busted with the arrest of five people, reports Business Standard.
The gang had made at least 400 spurious BEST bus passes costing the transport undertaking dear, said an official.
Four members were arrested from Chembur in eastern suburbs while the main accused was held from Wadala bus depot, he added.
Among them, one person is an employee of Trimax Company, which has a contract of preparing BEST's monthly travel passes, he said.
The police recovered 37 fraudulent travel passes from the private company employee. The gang used to issue bogus monthly bus passes and pocket the money, the official said, adding a further probe is under way.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
