Congress president Rahul Gandhi has said that he has entrusted his sister Priyanka Vardra and fellow Congressman Jyotiraditya Scindia, both in charge of Uttar Pradesh, with the task of ensuring a Congress government is formed the next time around, reports The Hindu.

Priyanka and Scindia were earlier appointed general secretaries of east UP and west UP respectively.

Addressing a meeting in Salon, Rae Bareli, on Thursday (24 January), Rahul said, “We have come to defeat the BJP and wipe them out.”

However, on the SP and BSP alliance, he said he had “respect” for their leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati, who have formed an alliance ignoring the grand-old party.

The Hindu had also reported that the Gandhis, on 4 February, would undertake a holy dip on the occasion of “Mauni Amavasya”, considered auspicious, and on the day of the second “Shahi Snan”.
