BJP Leader Kirit Somaiya Comes To Arnab's Aid, Meets Taloja Jailer To Seek Assurance Of Proper Care, ProtectionKirit Somaiya 

BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya has warned the Maha Vikas Aghadi government to stop its use of “draconian powers” in relation to the arrest of Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.

"The Supreme Court has also warned the Maharashtra government to stop the abuse of power. I warn the government of Maharashtra to stop the abuse of draconian powers to harass Arnab Goswami. If anything happens to Arnab Goswami in jail, the people of Maharashtra will not tolerate", Somaiya has been quoted as saying.

In a recent video, the primetime anchor has alleged that his life is under threat and that he has been assaulted by the Mumbai police officials.

After Arnab was taken to Taloja jail on Sunday morning. Taking to Twitter, Somaiya had said, “I talked to Jailer Taloja Jail. Talked for appropriate treatment to #ArnabGoswami , I am going to Taloja Jail now, to reach at 1pm.”

Following up on his assurance, the 66-year-old further tweeted, “I met Jailer Kurlekar at Taloja Jail, insisted proper care and protection of #ArnabGoswami. Jailer assured me, No Harassment will take place in Jail. Required Medical treatment will also be provided.”

Kirit Somaiya has been a two-term MP from the Mumbai North-East constituency. The BJP had reportedly not given him a Lok Sabha ticket in 2019 due to bitter opposition from its erstwhile ally the Shiv Sena.
