Posters have come up in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh expressing thanks to Samajwadi party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav for his comments lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha yesterday (Wednesday, 13 February 2019) and calling for his return at the helm of the government again, reports NDTV.
"Thank you Mulayam Singh Yadav, today you reiterated the wish of 125 crore Indians in the Lok Sabha," read one of the posters.
Yadav’s remarks were surprising not only in their content but also in their timing, as his son, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, has upped the ante in his attacks against Modi as the general election approaches. He has entered into a ‘Mahagathbandhan’ or grand alliance of opposition parties seeking to prevent a return of the BJP to power at the Centre.
Sonia Gandhi, who was sitting next to Yadav when he spoke in favour of Modi, also could not hide her surprise at his remarks.
"I congratulate the Prime Minister because he has tried to take everybody along. I want to say that all members must win and come again and Narendra Modi should become the Prime Minister again," he had stated.
The prime minister responded to the praise with folded hands and thanked Yadav twice for his comments.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
