In a major setback for Gurmeet Raam Rahim Singh's Dera Sacha Sauda, the Government of India has slapped it with an order to recover a sum of about Rs 350 crore following an investigation carried out by the Income Tax department, reports Indian Express.
The investigation against the Sirsa based Dera by the Income Tax authorities was conducted in pursuance of an order passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. On Friday (13 December), the Government of India informed the Court about the development.
The investigation against the Dera was launched to recover the damages caused to property in the States of Punjab and Haryana following the Dera chief Singh's conviction in a rape case in August 2017.
It should be noted that Dera chief Singh is presently incarcerated serving a term of 20 years in a prison located in Haryana State's Sunaria prison located in Rohtak.
