The suspense over the Chhattisgarh CM post ends as Bhupesh Baghel has been selected by the Congress party in a legislative meeting of the party in Raipur, as reported by Indian Express. Party leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, PL Punia, TS Singhdeo, were present for the meeting.

The Congress party won the state of Chhattisgarh by gaining 68 seats in the 90-member house, but massive confusion persisted within the party over the Chief Ministerial candidate in the state. The tussle remained between Charandas Mahant, Tamradhwaj Sahu, Bhupesh Baghel and TS Singhdeo.

The party witnessed similar internal rivalries in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. While there was a battle between veteran Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia in the latter, former saw the battle between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot turning violent with tyres being burnt on the highway by supporters of Pilot.

Sahu in Chhattisgarh is reportedly upset over being sidelined in the CM race. On the other hand, Baghel refrained from commenting on whether the MLAs favoured him as the CM candidate and mentioned that the opinions expressed by his MLAs are ‘confidential.’ Furthermore, Singhdeo down-peddled the reports of his name being in the CM candidates’ list and said that someone might have proposed his name in the meeting,.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier uploaded photos with the Chief Ministerial candidates from the three states quoting Tolstoy and Hoffman over patience, unity and teamwork.
