Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists disrupted a youth camp organised for Class XI and Class XII students which aimed at imparting Indian cultural values.

Chinmaya Yuva Kendra had organised the youth empowerment and management training programme at Chinmaya Vidyalaya campus, but KSU activists and some local Congress leaders caused a ruckus, labelling it ‘communal’, according to this report in The New Indian Express.

The KSU is the Kerala wing of Indian National Congress’ (INC) student organisation, National Student Union of India.

The Medical College Police has filed a case against KSU activists and launched a probe. KSU district president, who is under investigation, said,“We went to the school to check after we got complaints regarding the camp. They did not include students from other communities and were giving discourses on communal topics. We were forcefully evicted from the campus when we enquired about the details of the camp.”

But Chinmaya Vidyalaya assistant manager and Yuva Kendra member Deepak C said this was a simple youth empowerment programme and anyone could come and attend the camp and “see what we share with the students”.

“Besides giving classes on Bhagavad Gita, we conduct discourses on Indian culture and teachings of Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati. The training programme is aimed at helping the students use spiritual insights in their daily life. We don’t know why we are targeted. Chinmaya Yuva Kendra has been conducting such camps world over,” The New Indian Express quoted Deepak as saying.
