Indicating vaccination as the way forward for the state in its fight against Covid-19, the Karnataka government on Wednesday (19 May) said it is aiming to administer Covid-19 vaccine to all its adults by October or November-end of 2021.
“The second way forward for the state is that everyone in Karnataka should be administered the vaccines at the earliest. The government is striving towards ensuring 100 per cent coverage to the entire population by October or November-end,” said health minister K Sudhakar.
According to Hindustan Times, only 2.5 million people have received both the doses which accounts for less than four per cent of the state’s entire population estimated at 65 million.
The Centre has so far provided Karnataka with 1,11,26,340 doses. Of the purchases made directly by the state government, it has so far received 950,000 doses of Covishield and 144,170 doses of Covaxin. These bring the doses received by the state so far to 1,22,20,510.
On the other hand, Bharat Biotech will be manufacturing close to four-five crore doses of Covaxin on a monthly basis by August-end in its Kolar plant in Karnataka that is under construction currently.
The facility at Malur in Kolar will be able to produce one crore vaccines by June- end. By July-end it will be by two to three crores, and the company’s target by August-end is four crore to five crore vaccine doses.
