Indian National Congress (INC) has been accused of running a paid advertisement campaign on Facebook in Pakistan, calling for removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The ad stated “Modi Hatao, Desh Bachao” (Remove Modi, Save Country) along with a picture of the Prime Minister. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday called out the Congress party on the advertisement.
BJP spokesperson, Sambit Patra in a press meet, showed copies of a Facebook page in the name of Indian National Congress (verified account) with the advertisement. In the location of advertisement, Pakistan was highlighted.
"What does it mean? You (Congress) are running a campaign in Pakistan against our popular prime minister in Pakistan," he told reporters.
He questioned Congress, saying that it is understandable if the opposition party runs a campaign against the Prime Minister in India by but why sponsor an Anti-Modi campaign in Pakistan.
He pointed out that it was not a new phenomena that Congress leaders were showing their love for Pakistan. He cited Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu's recent comments as an example. Sidhu, a Congress MP had recently said that he felt more connected with Pakistan than southern India , as reported by the New Indian Express.
BJP’s IT head Amit Malviya also tweeted a photograph of the INC Facebook page, saying "official Congress page sponsoring advertisements on Facebook in Pakistan to remove Modi!"
