The Union Ministry of Steel has stated that two state-run steel firms, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), have together employed over 35,000 persons, who were displaced due to steel plants.
“In Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant of RINL(RINL-VSP), 7845 persons were given employment as against commitment of 5000. In Bhilai Steel Plant (SAIL)4468 persons, Rourkela Steel Plant (SAIL), 6,486 persons, Bokaro Steel Plant (SAIL) 16000(approx) persons and Salem Steel Plant (SAIL) 214 persons were provided employment,” said the government release.
It should be noted that these persons were employed under regular grades in the pay scales and wages have been paid to them as per the Company Rules without discrimination.
The Ministry has also provided details on the facilities made available at four rehabilitation colonies for displaced persons due to the Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant. “These colonies have amenities like drinking water, roads, street lights, school health centers and community centers,” the release added.
The NDA government, led by Prime Minister Modi, has repeatedly stressed the importance of ensuring development for all. Mr Modi has noted that his guiding principle was ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas.’
