Anup Chandra Pandey is the new Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh (UP) administration. He is replacing Rajiv Kumar for the post who is retiring on 30 June. Pandey is a 1984 batch IAS officer. He is currently the Industrial Development Commissioner. According to this report in Dainik Jagran, the government was impressed with Pandey’s role in organisating the Investor’s Summit in February and hence decided to promote him as Chief Secretary. Notably, Pandey was also the Director of Information in the government of Kalyan Singh.
As chief secretary, Pandey is expected to have his task cut out. The incumbent Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) wants to repeat its performance of 2014, where it won 71 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats of UP, next year. For this, the primary schemes of the both the central and state government need to show results on ground. In a State of the size and population of Uttar Pradesh, that is not an easy task.
