Former Murugha Mutt seer Sri Shivayoga Swami has stated he is going to appeal to the President to allow him a mercy killing. This, he says, is because of the constant death-threats to him from former Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni and his aides, as reported by The Hindu.
He says he was forced to abdicate the peetha too by the same people. The Swami is now staying in a small mutt at Pashupatihal, Kundgol Taluk of Dharwad District.
Swami said even after he left the peetha in 2009, he was continuously harassed. He said, “false allegations were made against me that I had an affair with a woman and was trying to sell the land belonging to the mutt illegally. These allegations were made mainly with the motive of throwing me out of the mutt as I didn’t yield to the pressure from Mr Kulkarni and act according to his wishes.”
He remarked that apart from the dismissed case of 2015, there were other allegations conjured up just to harass him. Demanding an apology from Kulkarni, he said that he doesn’t know why no other Lingayat heads could come to his support.
Swami alleged that after their lies has been exposed, the former MLA and his aides were planning to poison him. “Instead of being killed by goonda elements, I would like to appeal to the President, the Prime Minister and the Human Rights Commission to grant me mercy killing,” he said. Appealing to the media, he added that he would petition the authorities also.
