Senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar who is spearheading the party’s efforts to diffuse the political crisis in Karnataka, was detained by the Mumbai police on Wednesday (10 July) while camping outside a Powai hotel, currently housing rebel Congress-JD(S) MLAs, ANI has reported.
This detention came after Shivakumar refused to leave the area after section 144 was imposed outside the hotel. Former Mumbai Congress chief Milind Deora was also detained after he reached to the spot to meet Shivakumar.
It was earlier reported that Shivakumar had attempted to storm the hotel housing 10 rebel MLAs but was stopped by the cops after the MLAs had written to the authorities claiming that they were feeling threatened.
After being unable to meet the rebel leaders, Shivakumar decided to camp outside the hotel and made dramatic statements like, “I will not go without meeting my friends. I can't go, they (rebel MLAs) will call me. Their heart will break. I'm in touch already”.
