External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday (13 February) gave a befitting to historian Ramachandra Guha after the latter tried to discredit him for criticising Nehru.

Jaishankar after launching the biography of civil servant V P Menon said that as per the book Nehru did not want to include Sardar Patel in his cabinet. He added that the claim has been subject to much debate and the author Narayani Basu has stood her ground in this matter.

This drew a sharp retort from Guha who called it a myth and ‘advised’ Jaishankar to leave this job to the BJP IT cell.

Jaishankar though refused to take this barb lying down and replied that, “Some Foreign Ministers do read books. May be a good habit for some Professors too. In that case, strongly recommend the one I released yesterday”.
